Marc G. Serré appointment to the Board of Governors, University of Sudbury
November 1, 2025
Serré & Associates / Associés congratulates Marc G. Serré on his appointment to the Board of Governors of the Université de Sudbury. This appointment is both a professional commitment and a deeply personal one, rooted in Marc’s Northern Ontario upbringing and lifelong connection to Francophone education, leadership, and community-building.
Marc was raised in the Francophone communities of Field, Verner, and Chelmsford. His Francophone roots shaped his values early: service, fairness, solidarity, and a belief that language and culture are strengthened when institutions are well-governed, well-supported, and connected to the communities they serve. As a former Member of Parliament and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Official Languages, Marc worked on major initiatives supporting Canada’s linguistic duality, including the modernization of the Official Languages Act. Throughout his public service, he consistently advocated for strong Francophone institutions and practical support for minority-language communities, especially in Northern and rural Ontario.
Marc’s commitment to education is long-standing. He is a graduate of Laurentian University (Honours Bachelor of Commerce) and has served in education and governance roles over many years, including as a trustee with the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO). He also played an active role during the founding year of Collège Boréal in 1995, supporting the growth of Francophone post-secondary opportunities in the North.
This appointment also carries a meaningful family connection. Marc’s late father, Gaëtan Serré, studied at Collège du Sacré-Cœur and the Université de Sudbury. That connection makes this new chapter especially significant and reinforces Marc’s belief in the enduring role the Université de Sudbury plays in the vitality of Ontario’s Francophonie.
Marc looks forward to contributing his experience in governance, strategic planning, community development, and institutional leadership to support the Université de Sudbury’s continued renewal and long-term success.
