Testimonial

Occasionally, one encounters a person who really, truly loves what he does. There’s a certain look in his eyes saying: “The work I am doing is exactly what I must do and want to do. I am so happy!” He is always truly happy to see you, happy to talk about what he does and leaves you feeling good.

Your MP (Federal Liberal Candidate for Nickel Belt) Marc G. Serré, is that kind of person for me. He always has a smile on his face, loves his work and loves talking to you about it.

Every time I have had to deal with Marc, he was always smiling, happy to see me, even when the topic we had to contend with was controversial. He is one of the good people.

I have met a numerous politicians working in various capacities and in many situations. Two of our former mayors brushed me off; one provincial MPP totally ignored me; another blatantly lied to me and, when confronted, covered up with another lie. I have been totally ignored and snubbed by a former Prime Minister and even attacked by a party’s political machine.

On the upside, I have also developed many friendships with people from all political affiliations: John Tory, a true gentleman; John Rodriguez, a consummate socialist; Jim Prentice, whom I consider to be the last true Conservative; Jim Gordon, who always had time for me; and Senator Hugh Segal, a friend who offered wise advice when I attempted to run for office in Sudbury. All in all, there are a hundred more positive than negative aspects to my interactions with politicians.

Marc stands out when I think about him; he is always smiling and truly wants to get to the bottom of things and help as much as he can; and he is always honest enough to tell me when he cannot. I trust him because he is honest.

Marc’s interests reflect my own. Marc is aware that we need to support effort to fight climate change; he has been a champion of the environmental organization I have helped establish and still work with. Marc is also sensitive to women’s rights and gender equality; he has been a member of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women and worked with the Department for Women and Gender Equality.

I live in Newfoundland now, but I hope that Marc and his smile will be re-elected, for his well-being and all of yours.
