Marc G. Serré Officially Files Candidacy for Sudbury East—Manitoulin—Nickel Belt

Today, I officially filed my candidacy for the April 28th federal election at the Elections Canada office located at Place Bonaventure Mall in Chelmsford. As a lifelong resident, I have a strong connection to Northern Ontario. With more than 17 years of public service as School Board Trustee, Municipal councillor, the not-for-profit sector and now Federally, I’m committed to continuing the work that matters most to the people of Sudbury East—Manitoulin—Nickel Belt: making life more affordable, investing in our communities, and advancing meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

Families, seniors, and small businesses across our region are feeling the pressure of rising costs. That’s why affordability is at the heart of my campaign. I’ve consistently advocated for measures that lower everyday expenses—from rural housing and energy-efficient upgrades to increased support for seniors.

No matter where I go in the riding, the message is the same: life is getting harder, and Ottawa needs to do more. I’m running for re-election to keep fighting for fairness, opportunity, and real solutions that reflect the unique challenges we face here in the North.

I’ve also been a strong advocate for investments in infrastructure, improved health care access, better broadband connectivity, and job creation in both traditional and emerging sectors. I’m proud of the work that I have done with clean energy and mining innovation—and I remain focused on building a resilient, sustainable Northern economy that protects our environment for future generations.

Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples remains a cornerstone of my work. Over the years, I’ve partnered with local First Nations to support housing, education, language revitalization, and cultural preservation. That work must continue—grounded in respect, partnership, and action. I’m committed to listening, showing up, and working hard alongside Indigenous communities to move forward together.

I was born and raised in Northern Ontario, and I come from a family with a long-standing tradition of public service and community leadership. As a Member of Parliament, I’ve helped deliver historic federal investments for our region—supporting recreational infrastructure, Indigenous-led housing, small business growth, and local economic development.

I'm also proud to stand with Mark Carney, a proven leader with global credibility and a deep understanding of what it takes to build a fair, resilient economy.

Mark brings not just experience, but a steady hand in uncertain times — and a commitment to values that reflect who we are as Canadians.

With the threat that Donald Trump’s actions pose and growing instability around the world, Canada needs strong, principled leadership.

What happens south of the border impacts us, our economy, our democracy, our security.

That’s why we must stay united, focused, and forward-looking and reject division, fear, and misinformation.

I’m running to be part of that strong, united Liberal team, one that defends our values and delivers for Canadians, right here in Northern Ontario.

This campaign is about putting people first. I’ll continue to meet with residents across the riding, listen to your concerns, and deliver results that make a real difference in your daily lives.

This riding is my home—and serving you has been the honour of my life. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and I’m ready to keep building on that progress.
